Victoria Celestine (Nicole Leigh Jones) braves a transatlantic journey from Holland to America to search for her missing husband. Accompanied by her young brother Abraham she discovers Shroud—a ghost town deep in the Arizona Territory. There she unravels a conspiracy involving a misplaced Mayor (G. Russell Reynolds), his wife (Morgana Shaw), a renegade marshal (Jodie Moore) and his posse of cruel Confederate defectors.

With history wrapped in superstition and murders masked by myth, Lady Celestine reveals the grisly secret of a dead Spanish Conquistador, a heretic hanged, and the 300-year old Apache legend of an abomination that feeds on innocence.

A Swingin’ Trio — Graphic Design (Faux Book Covers)

The script for A Swingin’ Trio calls for the main character Homer (Johnny Walter) to be well read in scientific theory.

In order to avoid any copyright issues, I designed several faux book jackets for camera close-ups on his desk that reflect this interest.

The jackets were measured for existing books, designed in Adobe Illustrator CS4 with royalty-free photography, and affordably printed by local digital printers in Austin, Texas.

They turned out great.

A Swingin’ Trio — Graphic Design (Faux Movie Posters)

In Kelvin Phillips’ film A Swingin’ Trio, the character of Trude Garcon-Moore is a successful film producer.

In order to communicate this quickly in the story, I designed several full-sized faux movie posters based on photography donated to the production by my good friend and successfull photographer Bryan Chatlien.

Using Bryan’s imagery, I was able to quickly whip up some convincing low-budget posters for Trude’s growing catalog of films.

The  posters were designed in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop CS4, scaled to the most affordable over-sized printing parameters, printed full bleed by a local Austin digital printer and mounted on 0.25″ foam core.

Like the book jackets, they came out pretty well.

A few easter eggs lie in the credits.

A Nod to the Illuminating Michael Morlan

Michael Morlan served as our Gaffer and Lighting Director on Shroud and worked closely with our Director of Photography H. R. Massey.  Michael’s experience and expertise delivered a credible lighting scheme that complimented the vintage decor and Civil War-era Production Design seamlessly.

Among the many accolades Shroud has garnered has been the constant praise for the film’s superior lighting.

So, we give a thankful nod to Michael Morlan of Austin Film Tools for his willingness to work with us on this small first venture.

My First Shroud Teaser

This teaser is far and away my favorite component of the Shroud marketing materials.   Scored by Nathan M. Johnson, a brilliant composer, this piece is simultaneously wistful, promising and triumphant.

The simplicity of the teaser is part of its charm to me.  Four images connected by fade to blacks, with four reversed taglines culminating in the promise of victory.
